This video clip is from the end of the set. Kris has ended his shows for many years with this song, Please Don’t Tell Me How the Story Ends. In recent years, some have speculated that the song has implied that Kris was about to give up touring.
2018/2019
At 83, he certainly has many more gigs behind him than in front of him, but for now, he is not showing any signs of slowing down. 2018 and 2019 might be the busiest touring years to date. He has toured Europe (a few times), Australia, New Zealand, and covered most of the USA (a few times).
Gigging
Accompanied by Scott Joss, Doug Colosio and Jeff Ingraham (some of the Strangers who backed Merle Haggard), his recent gigs have a different atmosphere to the previously solo gigs – But then Kris’ live performances have evolved over the years. He performed with backing bands in the 80s, was one of the legendary Highwaymen – The supergroup with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, and he has performed with an endless list of artists in between.

Thoughts
I guess we are all getting older, and this can have unpleasant side effects. For many fans, Kris has been that “man in the mirror” – The man does have a knack of showing us who we are.
The very thought of Kris ever not performing on stage or being with us gives me the chills. I think I might feel, for now, that I’m with him – I don’t want to know when the story ends.
